Hello D2R friends and family!
Last weekend we had an incredible time meeting all the Veterans, family and supporters out at our very first Disconnect to Reconnect Veteran Group Hike! Located in Auburn, Hidden Falls Regional Park was the perfect place to get out in nature with some new faces with lots of amazing stories!
This first D2R event truly set the bar high for our recreational events to come, and I couldn't be more excited!
It was awesome to see Veterans bringing their Service Dogs (some still in training), their spouses, and even their kids and close family members to this event. Together, this group was able to prove that even on an entry-level hike, the benefit of being together, being in nature, and doing a little fitness is unmeasurable.
Here at Disconnect to Reconnect, our task is simple...
Get Us Outdoors - Check.
Get Us Hiking - Check.
Enjoy the Benefits of Nature - Check, Check!
Have conversations with fellow veterans, learn about each other, and maybe even be a little vulnerable - Quadruple Check!
[We also learned Casey cannot talk and cry at the same time]
LOL!
Although we wish we could do these events every day, we truly do look forward to having these group hikes throughout the year and continuing to grow the relationships that come from these events. Please be sure to spread the word and invite your fellow veterans to any and all of our events!
Until next time,
