About the event
We have a couple campsites at Camp Shelly in South Lake Tahoe just about a mile from the trailhead. The goal is to wake up and start the hike to the summit around 2 am with a summit before sunrise. Hiking up Mt. Tallac in South Lake Tahoe in the dark requires careful preparation to ensure safety of everyone who is attending. Here is a list of essential gear to get you started. Please reach out about any questions regarding gear for this hike.
Lighting:
Headlamp with extra batteries/fully charged bring a secondary headlamp and
Handheld flashlight as a backup
Clothing: Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support Extra socks Hiking clothing
Light midlayer if its cold at night
Backpack Essentials:
Daypack First aid kit Multi-tool or knife Fire starter (matches/lighter) Emergency whistle Space blanket or emergency bivy
Bear Spray
Hydration and Nutrition: At least 2-3 liters of water (hydration system or water bottles) High-energy snacks (nuts, energy bars, dried fruit) Lightweight stove or thermos with hot beverage
Additional Gear: Trekking poles for stability Sunglasses (for sunrise) Sunscreen and lip balm (for morning descent) Camera or smartphone for photos Insect repellent
